Bring Your Dream
Heritage

While Chad and Troy founded McWhinney in 1991, the roots of the McWhinney family in Loveland and their 3,300-acre master planned communities, Centerra and Van de Water, reach back two centuries. In the 1860s, Chad and Troy’s great-great grandfather, John Hahn, settled in the Big Thompson Valley, three miles east of what is now downtown Loveland. John homesteaded and farmed land that would stay in the family and eventually become the beginning of Centerra.

In 1991 while living in California, Chad and Troy seized an opportunity to purchase 440 acres of family-owned land that was part of the original John Hahn homestead at Interstate 25 and Highway 34. That transaction was the first in a series that launched McWhinney as a leader of real estate development in Northern Colorado.

This 140-plus year connection to the land and the Loveland community sets McWhinney apart and provides the underpinnings for the company’s commitment to quality and for Chad and Troy’s long-term vision of creating great places for people that stand the test of time.
